Methodology

The project will employ a comprehensive mixed methodology approach, consisting of qualitative, quantitative and emerging digital research methods, to explore and deepen the multifaced and complex nature of the issues under observation, and to render the study more generally valid (Read & Marsh 2002).

The methodology aims at being transversal in terms of data and tools used, fully reflected in the mixed methods research processes that have pervaded the social science and technology research scenes in recent years. Specifically, by articulating the disciplinary dimensions, levels of investigation, types of data and tools used, the research path involves a mixed design to provide enough coverage in terms of different public administrations through the cases analysed and participants involved (Saunders & Townsend 2016). The research methodology is also intended to be transversal across the following work packages (WP) through which the project is planned to be developed:

  • WP1: State-of-the-art
  • WP2: Diffusion and integration of technology-enabled agile forms of working
  • WP3: Best and worst practices
  • WP4: Human-centred and ethical future of work
  • WP5: Dissemination and exploitation plan
  • WP6: Project management, coordination, documentation, and ongoing feedback
